What Is Puppy School?

Puppy School is an established network of puppy training tutors.  Puppy School courses are of the highest standard and only use kind and effective training techniques.  Puppy School was set up in 2002 by founder and Director, Gwen Bailey, to help new owners give their puppies the best possible start in life.  Gwen is an internationally renowned dog trainer and behaviourist who has written 13 books on animal behaviour and lectures on the subject in the UK and internationally.


Where is Puppy School, Newport?

Our Puppy Training Classes are held at the Hatherleigh Community Centre, Newport, South Wales. NP19 8BB.


How long does the classes run for?

The Puppy School course is a set of 6 puppy training classes.  Each class lasting for 1 hour each. 


What do you learn during the course?

During the course will take you and your puppy through the foundations of training and socialisation.  Examples of exercises are;


  • Positions (sit, down, stand).
  • Recall.

  • Wait.
  • Settle.
  • Socialisation.
  • Handling for health checks.
  • Play biting.
  • Food and chew bone manners.
  • And much more.


What do you receive?

When you sign up to Puppy School you'll receive an informative colour manual about Puppy School classes and what to expect each week.

You will receive a free packet of treats and a £15.00 money off voucher from Natures Menu.

At the end of the 6 week course, you will receive a Rosette, Certificate and a goody bag.


How old does your puppy need to be to start classes?

Puppy School is designed for puppies aged 20 weeks or less, on the start date of the course, and needs to be vaccinated in order to attend class.


What else do you need to know?

Classes are run with no more than 8 puppies – this means more individual attention and support for you and your puppy!

Only reward based training methods are used.  Treats, toys and praise are used to encourage puppies to be well behaved.  No bullying or rough handling is tolerated.

The puppy training exercises gradually progress from easy to more complex, building on your puppy’s understanding and reliability each week.

As well as the 6 puppy classes, you can benefit from after class support via phone or email if you need it.

If you are unable to attend Puppy School group classes or feel that this group environment will not be suitable for your puppy, you may want to consider one to one Puppy School training, which takes place at your own home at convenient times for you.
